Upcoming Workshop!

One space left as of October 31st!

Stitching and Mending with Catherine Nicholls

In this hands-on workshop students will explore the history and tradition of mending.  Using fabric collage and stitch techniques they will learn the skill of needlework and create a piece to take home. A selection of threads and fabrics will be provided and the cost has been included in the cost of the workshop.

An optimum number of students would be 10 but as many as 12 can be accommodated. If there are more than 12 students a second workshop may be offered at a later date. The workshop will be offered in Gibsons on November 15 and the cost will be $90 which includes the materials fee. Please bring a  packed lunch. A deposit will be required and the first responders to this message will be notified re how to send your deposit.

Student requirements:

  • A hand sewing kit including a selection of needles of various sizes, small sharp scissors, a thimble if you use one and any other supplies you need for hand stitching.
  • A selection of embroidery threads/fine yarns you already have and would to use for experimentation. There will be hand-dyed and commercial yarns in your kit but if you have suitable yarn, bring it along.
  • Bring a piece you would like to mend, a knitted item like socks or a sweater or a woven fabric item.
  • For working on knit items you will need small double-pointed needles of 2.25 mm or smaller

Former Member’s estate sale

Former guild member Elizabeth Nordlund has passed away. Elizabeth was incredibly organized and participated in a variety of textile crafts.  We are selling her equipment and stash by donation with the proceeds to go to The Sarah McLachlan School of Music as requested by Elizabeth.  This charity provides music lessons and mentorship for at risk and underserved children and youth.

The equipment will be on the website with her daughter Janice’s email so that you can contact her directly.

The list below indicates what is available with retail prices.  Some was sold at the southern spin-in but much is still available. See it at the October meeting! Please use it as a guide to make donations to this worthy cause.
